Announcement: We Got It!

January 26, 2012

The 2013 Solar Decathlon will be held at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California. This is a converted airport in a valley surrounded by the Santa Ana Mountains.

This is the future home of UNC Charlotte's AIM House at Orange County Great Park in California! UNC Charlotte was chosen to join twenty University teams from around the world who were chosen to compete in the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013.  This will be the second time UNC Charlotte competes in the Solar Decathlon following our first entry in 2002.

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an award-winning program that challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. The event will take place Oct. 3 to 13, 2013, at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California. The competition houses will be open to visitors on eight days over two weekends.

Join us in our journey to help build the next generation of sustainable, solar-powered houses!
